Background
Known by the Gyðjar as Frostütten, little facts surround the Frost Giants par from ancient legends and tales woven by demented Nosklanders. For more than half a millennium—as long as the stories have been told—the Atticosians believed these entities nothing more than the ravings of madmen from The Cruel North; but in the last half-century enough evidence has presented itself leading those in the northern bailiwicks to judge truth behind the tales.
According to the crazed Nosklanders, the Frostütten are giants who stand poised at the edge of the world in the north, breathing cold death toward the south, blanketing the northern landscape in ice and snow and freezing the seas. These giants remain as reminders of a world long lost, a world replaced by the proliferation of humanity. Frostütten despise humans with every cold breath they take, and the Gyðjar say the giants terrorize them in the north, abducting women and slaughtering men relentlessly.
Physical Description
Pysical characteristics change depending on the person, yet a few overlapping descriptions provide a general concept. First and foremost, as giants the Frostütten are extremely tall and broad. Some say they average twelve feet in height, others say they are capable of seeing over the tops of the tallest pines. One of the problems with determining height touches on whether the creature has a kreoð ("crown"), in other words a crown of antlers. Like an elk, male Frost Giants grow antlers as they mature and, just the same, can be perceived as taller if sporting a larger kreoð. All descriptions mark them as humanoid, with two arms and two legs, but the Frostütten are clothed in coarse salt and pepper fur, which can sometimes also appear as brown or a deep green. They are armed with long coal-black talons extending from five fingers on each hand, and they rarely carry weapons other than branches or trunks.
Ecology
The only thing known of these ancients humanoids is that they reside far in the north where the landscape is drowned in snowfall. Most sightings, however, occur in forested regions of Nosklend as opposed to the hills our mountains.
Behavior
Sightings are isolated and only consist of one supposed Frost Giant; no reports exist suggesting they travel or gather in groups, which challenges the legendary notion that the Frostütten stand together at the edge of the world. Witness reports, those comprehended, evoke the assumption they are intelligent and communicate using their own language.
