The Knights Sacellum

Designed to take place of the generic Paladin class, the Knights Sacellum are a religious military force created to protect the Daylic faith. The Daylic Military Orders consist of three chapters, each chapter established within a specific country:

  • Ecclesians in Enoja
  • Desians in Kedesh
  • Vardonics in Västødland

Because the chapters were instituted in different countries, different cultures, each chapter's training varies. This means one chapter may have disparate class abilities than another.

The Class
The Knight Sacellum is designed to take the place of the generic paladin. In Doa'Dane there are no wandering paladins. This means in order to play a "paladin" a player must choose one of the knightly chapters listed here. The core rules for paladins remain the same with all chapters, such as Hit Dice, Base Attack and Saving Throws. All chapters share a handful of paladin abilities: Aura of Courage, Divine Grace, Lay on Hands, and Smite Foe. Each chapter provides variations of core abilities and sometimes additional ones. The differences in abilities can be found in the chapter templates listed below. Because knights go through extensive training beginning at adolescence, to play a Knight Sacellum of any order a player must start as one. Players cannot multiclass into a knight at any time.

Faith
Every member of the Knights Sacellum is a follower of the Daylic faith. NO EXCEPTIONS! Any knight attempting to change religions will lose all associated divine powers. Exiled knights do not lose these powers for they are granted by their patron deity and not the establishment. Read below for more information on exiled and fallen knights.

Chapters
The templates for each chapter are listed below by name, and a downloadable package containing all three templates is available.

Exiled Knights
Under certain circumstances a knight may be temporarily exiled from his chapter. Any infraction that does not result in full expulsion from the chapter can be met with exiling the knight. An exiled knight still retains his abilities (both mundane and divine) but forfeits his rank and title and is no longer considered a member of any chapter. Exile is meant to be temporary, forcing the punished knight to take the time to find clarity before returning to official duty. An exiled knight still retains all abilities, though many contacts and privileges are forfeit until returning to duty.

Fallen Knights
Any Knight Sacellum who abandons his faith is classified as fallen and loses all divine abilities associated with the class. Some abilities cannot be unlearned, such as those taught during military training. A fallen knight may retain these combat abilities, but which abilities are lost is subject to the patron DM.
